Boutique 1861 has found her older, more sophisticated sister and she's called La Petite Garconne.
While stepping to Boutique 1861 will make you feel as though you're in Marie Antoinette's bedroom, La Petite Garconne will give you feeling that you've walked into a late 19th Parisienne parlour that serves as a meeting place for the suffragette, art and business communities. Like Melanie Griffith in Working Girl, these are clothes are serious with a hint of bad mixed in for good measure.
Not surprisingly, the store which opened in November has been doing steady business. This is owner Castle Ho's fifth store in Montreal. She also runs Boutique 1861 in two locations as well as Jazberry and Downstairs, so it's no surprise that she's perfected what a store needs and what it's customers want. Situated on the Main, almost next door to Boutique 1861, La Petite Garconne offers brands hand picked by Ms. Ho including wallet friendly brands like Lush and BB Dakota along with affordable luxury brands like Mackage and Ted Baker. The breathtaking interior of La Petite Garconne has a luxurious and dreamlike quality, but the friendly sales staff and affordable items should quickly put you at ease. Whatever your budget, you'll find a "must have" item when shopping here so be sure to bring your credit card so you can be sure to snap up that perfect addition to your wardrobe. (You can thank me later for the advanced notice.)
With the exception of the early 20th century inspired tin ceiling, the store's interior is entirely white. Carefully placed stacks of luggage are used in place of shelving to give the feel of an imminent voyage. Spacious dressing rooms allow for a stress free changing experience and an antique sofa has been placed close to the dressing rooms for your friends and lovers who might want to relax yet remain available to offer up second opinions and critiques compliments.
By all accounts, it's a near perfect shopping experience. The only thing missing is the tea service but sipping tea can get a little messy while trying on clothes, can't it?
Wondering what some of my favourite pieces are? I'll be back for the Lush shorts with flower petal like layers ($48), the Yanni suede pumps with chrome accents ($118) and the white Narvik wool coat with white fake fur trim for ($358).
